Several years ago I sat through a sermon given by my preacher that dealt with God’s love. He talked about how Christ showed the ultimate in love by dying for our sins. He gave examples of how that love shines through us and gave examples of ordinary Christians who died saving or protecting others. He did a nice job of tying it all together with God’s love and it was a sermon that stuck with me. The following week his sermon was on the lost lamb and of course he made the point several times during the sermon that we were all lambs of God. For some reason, my mind kept wandering back to the previous week’s sermon. I visualized a herd of sheep with lambs with the Good Shepard away looking for the lost lamb and thought who protects the herd? The answer seemed obvious; the ram. God asks us to be lambs but he also created rams for a purpose. In the wild, they are the protector.

As a Christian, I believe I have a sacred charge by God to help protect the innocent from evil. This world is filled with evil and at this time it seems to be on steroids. I know many of you who are reading this are out there fighting the good fight to help turn this world around by showing God’s love. We come from all walks of life and we all have different gifts we use in that fight. It can be as simple as a Sunday school teacher or youth director giving children and youth the ability to judge right from wrong and see evil for what it is. You could be an advocate for those who have no voice, or don’t have the ability to advocate for themselves. It can also be acts where a person disregards their own safety to protect or help someone in need. I see rams all around me, quietly, humbly, empowering and protecting. Are you one? If so, join me and take the pledge to fight evil in this world.
